Your pet is unique. Even within the same breed no dog is the same as another. That’s why it’s important for us to first meet your pet before beginning the grooming procedure. By taking the time to get to know your dog, we’ll receive significant information such as your dog’s behavior, breed, coat, weight, and medical history. This will put us in a better position to not only customize a spa treatment that’s most beneficial to your dog’s type, but also to estimate the amount of time it’ll take us to complete the cut.
Before we bathe your dog, we first prep it by gently trimming its nails, scrubbing its paws, and checking for mats. Once this process is complete, we then give your furball a clean, refreshing bath. Don’t worry, we’ll make sure not to get any soap in your munchkins eyes, and we’ll be extra diligent in checking your dog’s skin before selecting which shampoo is best for its fur. The bathing process can last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. So, owner be aware, it could be several hours before you get your little softy back.
After the bath, we dry your dog’s fur through a combination of tradition and technology. We first hand-dry its coat with a warm hand towel before speeding up the process with a high-velocity blower. The blow dryer is especially important since it helps remove any dander, undercoat, and dead hair that may have stuck to your dog’s skin during the bath. Once your dog is about 80% dry, we then place it in a drying kennel, which has plenty of airflow and a nice, cool temperature to make the rest of its drying session as relaxing as possible.
When your dog is clean and dry, we then commence with the final trim, style, and brush-out. If your dog is a shorthaired breed, a brush-out is all that’s necessary; if your dog is a long or curly-haired breed, its coat will need to be cut and styled. Usually this decision will be made during step #1 when you meet your groomer; however, that can change if your dog is severely matted or contaminated by fleas. If one of these circumstances should take place, we’ll make sure to inform you of the situation before proceeding with the cut.

Cleansing bath, gentle dry, ear clean, nail trim, light brushing, and a hand-strip. The Hand-strip is a specialty procedure that must be performed on all wirehaired breeds on a monthly basis. It’s an important process because it prevents matting and allows for a new wire-coat to come in—thereby maintaining the color and texture of the fur. A typical hand-strip usually takes about 1-3 hours to complete depending on the frequency of visits. Hand-strip clients are strongly recommended to come in every 4-6 weeks. Check out our regular client prices in the 'Special Services' section below.
We reward returning guests with a discounted price! All we ask is you have your pet groomed within 4 - 6 weeks and we'll knock off an additional 10% off the price!

Dogs have wild and complicated fur that often becomes so entangled, it forms into tight, little knots that we groomers like to call ‘mats’. At Tidy Tails, we understand how difficult it can be to disentangle these knots, so we’ll happily de-mat your dog for you; however, it must be stressed we maintain a strict pain-free policy at our Spa. For this reason, we won't de-mat any dog longer than half-an-hour. Click here for more information.
